What Are The Secrets To Apple’s Success?

by Chris Frost on March 4, 2010

In recent years Apple has become a master of creating highly innovative consumer products.  There are a few secrets to their success:

1.  Apple sells lifestyle dreams rather than products, if you look at an Apple commercial, it does not sell the MP3 player as much as the opportunity to experience the Apple lifestyle.  Use an iPod and you will be cool.  Focus on what people do with your product, not what your product does.  Help people feel that their purchase buys them access to a very special group.

2.  Rather than try and be first to market Apple concentrates on making something good, better.  Apple did not invent the PC of the MP3 player, they simply improved existing products.

3.  Make things simple, Apple makes things easy to use and experience.

4.  Apple empowers early adopters.  Real user’s unbiased, heartfelt reporting will convince more people to choose your product.  Provide the tools for early adoptors to market for you.

5.  Make your story memorable and make visitors to your website leave with clarity about you via a tight, memorable message or image, even if they don’t purchase.

6.  Surprise and delight your customers, marketing is all about the complete package.  Walk into an Apple store and you’ll feel mor elike you are in a museum.  Make first-timers remember.
